T-Mobile = 3G Service + October

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Here we go ’round the rumor-mill bush … supposedly T-Mobile is planning to expand the currently limited 3G service in October.  TmoNews claims that on October 1st, the currently limited 3G service will bring its zooming services to 27 of its top markets.  These markets include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Chicago and Miami, which are T-Mobile’s top markets.  Of course, this is all hearsay and has yet to be confirmed from T-Mobile, but we suspect that T-Mobile will plan to bring it in Q4 of 2008.

 T-Mobile and It’s 3G Service

T-Mobile already has four 3G phones that have been released, but the real news is that T-Mobile is well on its way to bring a real winner to the table with the release of the Sony Ericsson Bella, which is the epitome of its 3G service.  Also in works for a release is the 3G Android handset, which will support T-Mobile’s national 3G plan.  All in all, T-Mobile users are going to be happy with what is in store for the rest of 2008.  Granted, this is just speculation, but at least it’s being talked about.  So T-Mobile fans, gear up … you’re in for a fun year!

T-Mobile Has the 3G Rollout — With Voice AND Data

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Just last week Gammoth reported that T-Mobile would launch 3G capabilities in New York City with voice-only service, but it has been announced today that NYC gets 3G voice and data capabilities.  NYC is currently the only place that T-Mobile is offering this 3G network, and the carrier will launch at other data hotspots across the country.  To see the full release from T-Mobile, check out the article below.

T-Mobile USA Begins Commercial 3G Network Rollout

Company Launches UMTS/HSDPA Network in New York City on its AWS Spectrum;
Plans 3G Network Launches in Major Markets Across the Country in the Coming Months

NEW YORK and BELLEVUE, Wash. – May 5, 2008– T-Mobile USA, Inc. today announced that the company has taken the first commercial step in the rollout of its third-generation (3G) wireless network by launching its UMTS/HSDPA network in New York City. T-Mobile plans to continue the rollout of its 3G network across major metropolitan markets through the year. By year’s end, T-Mobile expects its high-speed data network will be available in those cities where a majority of its subscribers currently use data services. “The launch of our 3G network comes at a time when 3G phones and services are more affordable, capable and appealing to our consumer marketplace than ever before,” said Cole Brodman, chief development officer, T-Mobile USA. “We benefit not only from the economic scale of 3G, but also from the extensive commercial experience of 3G in our European markets. Today, T-Mobile USA customers already have among the highest adoption of data and messaging services in the industry. Through our 3G network, we look forward to delivering a rich portfolio of new and meaningful services to enrich our customers’ lives.”

T-Mobile’s 3G network supports voice and data services consistent with available service and handset offerings. The company today offers multiple phones that are able to operate on the UMTS network. The phones are designed to automatically connect to the best available network (3G or GSM/GPRS/EDGE) to provide the great call quality and rich communication services customers expect from T-Mobile.

Customers using a 3G-capable handset from T-Mobile will also experience faster data speeds when accessing the Web, or downloading content from the T-Mobile t-zones content portal, for example.

In the coming months, T-Mobile plans to offer its first HSDPA device, along with new and compelling data-centric, all-in-one devices that help make the most of T-Mobile’s high-speed data network.

The launch of the 3G network also enables T-Mobile to accommodate and serve more customers more efficiently through the use of its AWS spectrum, effectively doubling T-Mobile USA’s spectrum position, and laying the foundation for the company’s future growth. T-Mobile and the U.S. government, namely the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice, continue to work closely and effectively together to make available AWS spectrum that will give consumers access to the 3G network.

As the 3G service rolls out in targeted major markets, T-Mobile will continue to build upon its
T-Mobile® HotSpot Wi-Fi network — its wireless high-speed Internet offering that launched in 2003 — and its nationwide voice and data network, to empower customers to effortlessly stay connected using the best available network.

T-Mobile International is following a common technology path across all of its markets in Europe and the United States, from GSM/GPRS/EDGE to UMTS/HSDPA. T-Mobile USA greatly benefits from
T-Mobile International’s 3G experiences in Europe, where adoption of non-messaging mobile data is growing dynamically; and with more than 120 million customers worldwide, T-Mobile International is able to generate significant global procurement synergies.

T-Mobile Launches 3G Network in NYC May 1!

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

It is official that T-Mobile will launch the first 3G network (UMTS) in New York City tomorrow, May 1.  T-Mobile will be one of the first carriers to release the 3G network, although many other carriers will be quick to follow.

What is 3G?

3G stands for third generation.  It is the “next generation” of our wireless network, following the current GSM network.  3G is a new technology that will be able to better support wireless voice calls and data capabilities on the network.  Since the release of smart phones, data capabilities have needed improvement and the 3G network will be more supportive of these data needs.

In a release by T-Mobile found on TmoNews.com, it states that, “T-Mobile plans to expand to more than 20 markets by the end of 2008, and will also offer new devices and innovative applications that make the most of our 3G network …”

Way to get the ball rolling T-Mobile … now let’s just get everyone on the bandwagon!

***UPDATE***   T-Mobile is pulling the string on our hearts by providing VOICE ONLY 3G … 3G for data will be released at a later time.  Here is what a post from Engadget said late this afternoon:

3G is the next generation of our wireless network, following our current GSM network. In this early phase of our network evolution, 3G is a new technology for carrying wireless voice calls and supporting existing data capabilities on our network. In future phases, this next generation network will power ‘high-speed’ (3G) products and services that connect customers in new and exciting ways. … Inform customers who are interested in high-speed data that the first phase of our 3G roll out supports voice only.“  (Thanks, Engadget!)
