You know those creative people who get to review Apple products like to toy with our hearts when they make such bold statements such as ”It will be 3G in 60 days” (ahem, Walt Mossenberg) and then the retract the statement later.  Come on Walt, you can’t toy with our hearts like that!

The First 3G Announcement

Just yesterday, there were reports that Walt Mossenberg, a legendary technology columnist for The Wall Street Journal,  made this revelation on April 1 that Apple will have 3G capabilities in 60 days.  And why wouldn’t we believe him?  He is the guy who gets early access to all of Apple’s important products.  But believe it or not, he might have just been “teasing us.”

The Real Deal

Well, it’s not going to be “3G in 60 days” and I can assure you of that.   I am still thinking that we are going to see the iPhone 3G in early to mid-June.  But when it does come out … we will be ready and waiting.  Come on Apple … we really, really want 3G now!

PiperJaffray analyst Gene Munster says that Apple will have three distinct iPhone handsets in the market by January 2009, one that will be the 3G iPhone.
