You know when two rival sports teams play (ex. Packers versus Vikings) and they constantly jab each other until the seconds run out in the fourth quarter? Well, we are set to see a bit of this “jabbing” with Microsoft and Apple. These two companies have been at each other for years, since their operating systems are different and they are complete rivals. Apple lovers are tied to their Mac and Microsoft users will stick up for their Vista. It is almost an unwritten rule that these two “friendly competitors” must despise one another.
Apple and Microsoft Fighting Across Airwaves
Those Apple “Get a Mac“ ads have been running for some time now and have become nothing but a nuisance to Bill Gates and Microsoft. Venom laced in its latest TV ad with “fear of switching is the foundation of customer loyalty for PCs” being targeted at Microsoft. So guess what? Microsoft fights back.
Apple and Microsoft Go Head-to-Head
According to Engadget, Microsoft’s new $300 million campaign (one of Redmond’s largest ever) is set to launch with a “key celebrity pitchman” Jerry Seinfeld. Viewers will also be happy to see Mr. Microsoft himself Bill Gates. The campaign is said to be based around the idea of “Windows, Not Walls,” stressing the need to “break down barriers that prevent people and ideas from connecting.”
The immediate goal of the campaign is to reverse the negative public perception of Vista (mainly sparked by Apple). With Seinfeld and Gates together, many analysts believe that this could be a winning combination for Microsoft. In any fashion, we know that this is going to spark a rebuttal from Apple and we love the drama.
FYI: The campaign is said to debut on September 4. Watch and laugh!
