Sony Ericsson Wins GREEN Award

It seems like every day something new is happening in the world.  Whether it be extreme weather conditions, new technology or worldly discoveries, the world is a interesting and fragile place.  Over the past couple of years, it seems that some large corporations are taking corporate responsibility to another level.  Many business, both big and small, are trying to decrease their environmental footprint and are becoming leaders in our ‘green’ world.

How are Corporations Rated On Being ‘Green’?

The Greener Electronics Guide started in 2006 with the intention of getting the electronics industry to face the problem of e-waste.  It was designed to be a “in-your-face” book on which manufacturer’s were being environmentally friendly and which needed improvement.  And most of all, the book was designed so manufacturer’s would completely eliminate harmful chemicals in their products.

The Greener Electronics Guide scores companies on the disclosure of their greenhouse gas emissions, commitment for absolute cuts in their own emissions, and support for global emissions reductions that are needed for a change in climate.  For energy efficiency, a selection of each company’s product range is assessed to see how far they exceed the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star.  The Energy Star sets minimum standards for energy efficiency for different electronic products.  Because of the rapid rate of growth the technology sector has seen, it is vital that the biggest electronics companies take a leadership role in order to reduce chemical usage and to reduce the climate change footprint.

Sony Ericsson is  a GREEN Leader

Sony Ericsson has been recognized as a “best performer” to meet and exceed Energy Star standards.  Sony Ericsson stands out as the first company to score top marks on all of the chemical criteria, which gives them a leg up against other cell phone manufacturer’s.  With all new Sony Ericsson models being PVC-free (polyvinyl chloride), the company has also met the new chemicals criterion in the ranking, since Sony has already banned antimony, beryllium and phthalates from models launched since January of this year.

What Can You Do To Be GREEN?

As Kermit the Frog once said, “It’s not easy being green.”  And it’s very true.  Going green is a conscience effort and is more than a trend … it truly needs to be a lifestyle change.  The great thing about going green is knowing that you are truly making a difference in the world.  And once more corporations jump on the bandwagon, this world will be a whole lot greener.
