Many companies are releasing their Q2 results and with the economy at a standstill, large corporations are feeling the pain. Sony Ericsson, one of the best cell phone manufacturers around, is hurting in a big way. The ever-so-green handset maker was hoping to break even at the end of the quarter, but net profits ended up sliding down a slippery slope of 97 percent. Because of these dramatic and dreary results, Sony Ericsson plans to cut over 2,000 jobs around the world in order to stay afloat.
Manufacturers Taking a Blow
Since Sony Ericsson makes low-end cell phones, it has been a hard market to compete in with BlackBerry and Apple constantly pushing the bar of excellence. Granted, Sony Ericsson is releasing the Xperia X1 which should help matters quite a bit … and hopefully boost sales and net profits, which will ultimately help the bottom line.
Sony Ericsson Stills Finds A Way To Stay Green
Even though Sony Ericsson is struggling, it is still one of the best “green” manufacturers in the marketplace today. Also, it is an all-star performer as it meets and exceeds Energy Star standards. With all new Sony Ericsson models (including the Xperia X1) being PVC-free (polyvinyl chloride), the company has also met the new chemicals criterion in the ranking, since Sony has already banned antimony, beryllium and phthalates from models launched since January of this year.

You Win Some, You Lose Some
Although Sony Ericsson has faltered in its second quarter, it is a top manufacturer among technology products. And even though Sony didn’t reach its Q2 goals, it has a lot to look forward to with its release of the Xperia X1. Heck, its a leader in green technology so that’s not too shabby either. And Sony Ericsson, do not fret … the saying goes, “Once you hit bottom you can only go up …”
